1. India, UK vow to boost cooperation in maritime security, counter-terrorism:
India and the UK on Friday resolved to step up cooperation in the key areas of maritime security, counter-terrorism and climate change as the two countries held their foreign office consultations to review the entire range of bilateral relations.


Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale represented the Indian side, while the UK side was headed by Sir Simon McDonald, Permanent Under Secretary, Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the UK government.

World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated on May 11 and October 12
This year’s World Migratory Bird Day is dedicated to highlighting the problem of pollution with the theme, ‘Protect Birds: Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution.’

3. UN to hold 2020 ocean conference in Lisbon:
United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Thursday decided to hold its 2020 high-level conference early June in Portugal's Lisbon to support the sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources.

4. Japan Tests World's Fastest-ever Alfa-X Bullet Train Capable of Reaching 400 kmph:
Japan started testing its latest and fastest bullet train. The Shinkansen ALFA-X is capable of reaching 400 kilometers per hour (249 mph), and it's expected to enter operation around 2030. When it does, the ALFA-X will likely become the world's fastest bullet train, carrying passengers around 360 kph (224 mph).

5. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton Wins Spanish Grand Prix:

Lewis Hamilton won the Spanish Grand Prix for a third consecutive year after overtaking Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas at the first turn in Barcelona.

6. International Nurses Day 2019: Theme and Significance of Florence Nightingale's Birth Anniversary:

The International Nurses Day celebrates the contributions of nurses to the society and also observes the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale every year on May 12. Florence Nightingale, also known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp’, was famous as manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War.

The theme for the International Nurses Day 2019 is –‘Nurses – A Voice to Lead –Health for All’. The history of this day dates back to 1965 when the International Council of Nurses (ICN) .

7. Man City claim second successive title, Liverpool win but finish second:

Manchester City beat Brighton and Hove Albion 4-1 to retain the Premier League title while Liverpool finished second after defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 at Anfield. City have become the first team in 10 years to win consecutive league titles, the last to do so were their neighbours Manchester United.
